Worship

Dr John taught all about worship last week. I would love to hear your thoughts on what worship is, how we worship, and why we should worship. There are all sorts of ways people worship (even within the Presbyterian Church (USA)). With that in mind, what are your thoughts or questions concerning worship?

  1. I think it is good for everyone to go to worship every Sunday because we renew ourselves with God. I, personally feel good going to church because it's a good start to a new week. When Dr. John talked to us, I was really impressed how he continuously memorizes his sermons each week. I have a hard time remebering school presentations when I have notes in front of me. He also said that there is kind of a mastery book of which hymns and pslams and readings go together. That was pretty interesting also. So now when I go to church each Sunday, I will have a better understanding of how each session (I guess I would call it), is put together.

  2. Worship is something that you believe in and you want he/she to help you. We worship by praying to God for allowing us to be together and helping us through troubled times. We should worship because its right and that way there will always be someone to help you. I really think worship is a nice thing to do and I really don't have any concerns about worship.

  3. I believe that worship is a time that we set aside all our lives to be one with God and praise him. It is important that we do this because. as Tyler said, we are renewing ourselves with God. It also helps us to better understand God and his teachings. I believe that in talking with Dr. John, I better understand worship and how it is put together. Therefore, I don't really have any questions and concerns about worship in general.

  4. I enjoy going to worship. Going to worship is like an invitation to God. I enjoy knowing that I am not the only person who turns to God when I have a problem.

  5. I think worship is a way for people with the same beliefs can come together and get in touch with God. I never realzied Dr.John had to memorize the sermon each week. I would be to nervous that I would forget something.

  6. I think it is important for people to worship God each Sunaday. People can say that they beleive in God, but if they dont worship him, how can they be sure? Last week Dr. John talked about worship with us and how we worship versus how other churches worship. I heard some people say that they went to a church that they sang the whole time and another was that they worshiped on their knees. I like the way we worship becasue there is variety. One thing that I would like to see more of is signing. Also in the sermans, the words are sometimes tough to understand. Overall I really like the way we worship.

  7. We worship to praise God and thank Him for everything he has done for us. This can be through the form of song, prayer, anything you want. We should worship because He will always be there for us, listening. I think they should initiate a teenagers service, modified in a way to keep us interested (mostly the sermon). Other than that, I am pretty much ok with worship.

  8. Worship is when you listen, speak, and understand God. Most people worship by praying or going to services. I think that it is good for people to worship every week because as tyler said, we renew ourselves with God. In general worship makes me, personally, feel better and rejuvenated.

  9. Worship is when you find understanding about God and yourself. It is important because it allows you to think more about God and your purpose in life as part of God's family. Worship makes me feel closer to God and Christianity.

  10. Worshiping is like a fresh start to the new week. we come together to be forgiven for things we might have regretted the past week. i feel great after worship because its both a spiritual and personal relationship you have with god, and the one place i feel really close to him is in service.

  11. As I'm doing my first worship notes, I'm beginning to realize how much we can gain from worship and how just a few words from the bible can effect so many people in so many ways. It can be interpreted in several ways that make the bible a good place to look for advice and answers. I also want to commend Dr.John for being able to interpret these passages and make sermons on them every week. It's really impressive!

  12. I think worship is important. Like when people come to church every Sunday to worship God, they come to be closer to him. Even though people may not understand all the words or parts of the service, I think they will always get something out of what was said, the message of that day.

  13. For me, going to worship regularly is normal. My family goes every week, and I feel that worship can bring families together around a common thing that plays a part in their lives, religion.

  14. I believe that worship is coming foward to god, and showing your faith and belief in him. God can provide guidance when we are in need of help, and going to worship can help put us on the right path. You express your love for him through prayer, song, and personal connections. Going to worship puts you intact with God and your religion.

  15. Worship is when you listen, speak, and understand God. By going to services each week, and youth group every Wednsday, I feel close to him. During this time I emerse myself in his teaching, and grow in faith. I enjoy this time, because it helps me feel closer to him. When you worship, you don't care about anything but him, and that is important. Thats why I go to church each week.

  16. Worship is our way to let God know that we are thanking him for what he's done for us. It is showing our faith and belief in him. I feel closer to him than any other time because I am worshiping him which is thanking him.

  17. Worship is when we talk to God and concetrate on communicating with him. We can do this through silent prayer, group prayer, singing, listening for God, prayer drawing etc etc. We do this to be closer to God. We worship to praise him and connect to him. I remember hearing one person who worshiped by listening for God, like i said above. I think this is somewhat hard to understand but an interesting approach.

  18. To me worship can be in and out of church. But mostly to show worship you go to church and show god that your worshiping him. For outside worship you just pray once in awhile. I pray and think about my nana who i miss dearly and i know she is in heaven and watching me always. But i talk to her when i pray and i know she is always listening to me. I worship god for all the great things he has given me so i believe i do worship and it is a big deal to do so.

  19. I think going to worship is like a way getting closer to God. I know that I'm not the only one who goes to worship when i need help from God. It's good to know that everyone speaks to God the way everyone else does. Worship to me means being in touch with God.In church, we can worship by praying in church and being with everyone in church for the same reason. People can also worship outside of church by basically just praying and talking to God.

  20. Worshiping God shows our love for Him. It also shows that we can come forward and celebrate God and what He has done for us, as well as a fresh start to the upcoming week. Even though I wasn't in class that Sunday, after reading other peoples comments on how Dr. John memorizes his sermons,I was really surprised, I thought that they just got up in front of everyone and spoke what was on their mind. That must be really difficult, and I would have a really tough time doing that.

  21. I think that worship can be done anywhere anytime. I think the worship drawings/doodalins can help about with worshiping and praying. Worshiping God should be done almost everyday.
